Those wishing to participate show up and are turned loose with the bulls

The Running of the Bulls is a yearly event that takes place in Pamplona during the festival. It takes place on July 7th through the 14th. This is an event individuals eagerly anticipate watching while others can’t wait for the opportunity to participate in the Running of the Bulls. This part of the Fiesta is broadcast around the world each year. The event lasts about three minutes every day. It consists of men and women running as fast as they can from very mean and brutal bulls. They have to run approximately ½ a mile.
This festival has become a major tourist attraction with trips to the festival being a key part of travel during that part of the year.

Those wishing to participate show up and are turned loose with the bulls. This has been going on since the early 1800’s when the Running of the Bulls was conducted to move them from the end of town to the bullring. Many people enter the Running of the Bulls simply for the excitement of being part of this unique tradition. This part of the festivals includes fireworks, parades, dancing, and other fun activities. The Running of the Bulls takes place first thing each morning to kick of the activities each day of the festival.

However, most don’t realize just how fast a bull can run, or that his fury has no mercy. Injuries are very common during the Running of the Bulls. Runners trip over each other to get away from the bulls. If you fall down you can expect to be trampled by the other runners as well as the bulls. Some people have died as a result of their injuries during the Running of the Bulls. To date, 14 deaths have taken place during the Running of the Bulls.

This annual event is a tribute and honor to participate in. For those who are able to complete a leg at the Running of the Bulls without injury, this is quite an accomplishment. However, for those not so lucky the memory of the injuries that took place in just a few minutes can be hard to shake. The decision to participate in the Running of the Bulls should not be taken lightly.
